Who Is Mark Allen Patterson
Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Mark and Shirley Patterson Sr., Patterson was raised in the Atlanta area from the age of 8. He embodies a unique blend of grit and gentlemanly charm. This New Jersey native-turned-Georgian captivates hearts with his old soul, heart-warming voice, and ability to curate timeless experiences.
Early Ministry and Worship Leadership
Patterson began leading worship in the youth and young adult ministries at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, by age 16. Within a year, he became a worship leader for the principal praise and worship team, shepherding thousands into worship Sunday after Sunday.
During his tenure, Patterson had the privilege of serving and collaborating with celebrated leaders and gospel artists. He credits much of his early influence to Bishop William Murphy III and Darwin Hobbs from his time at New Birth and his travels as a worship leader with Pastor Benny Hinn.
Education and Career in Ministry and Music
While attending Lee University, Patterson joined the Voices of Lee ensemble. The group showcased their unique sound during the premiere season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, where America voted them into the top three.
As a singer-songwriter and background vocalist, Patterson contributed to numerous projects, including Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s acclaimed album Heart. Passion. Pursuit. He also co-wrote the inspiring anthem “Power in Praise” on Darwin Hobbs’ Stellar Award-winning album, Champion.
Patterson’s call to ministry led him to serve in churches across the United States, including New Beginnings Fellowship Church and Heartland Church in Indianapolis, the dReam Center Church of Atlanta, Victory Church in Lakeland, Florida, and Flatirons Community Church, headquartered in Lafayette, Colorado.
Motivated by personal ambition and a desire to lead by example, Patterson completed his Bachelor of Science in communication studies at Indiana University—an accomplishment achieved just before the arrival of his daughter.
“I wanted to show her how important it is to make it to the finish line—even if it takes longer than expected,” Patterson said.
